BFM will be homeless from autumn 2009?

Is it fair that one University gets most of money given to Estonian education from Europe? I don't think so. But this has happened and because of that from autumn 2009 Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School will be homeless. Tallinn University applied for some money to be able to buy a house for BFM and Tallinn University Art Institute. Decision makers though decided not to give the money and now BFM has reached a situation where it will be left homeless because it doesn't have the money to buy a house and Estonian government won't also give it.

Those people who decide where the money goes told that they will give huge amount of money to Estonian Art Academy which is going to build a brand new house for as I have heard 700 million kroons. So they will get that money and then they will build the house so that BFM will get rooms in that house as well, but the house will be ready around 2013, but what will happen to BFM during those 4 years? Well nothing, BFM students will get their education under trees.

THe house that BFM would buy if they would get the money is in first place much cheaper and second the house is already built and so BFM could move in time so that it would not be homeless for years. The house would be Estonian Film Center where Estonian films can be done and also the students would get a chance to work with real professionals who have worked in the field for years. But no, Estonian politicians have decided other. If Estonian politicians will keep playing with that school this way Estonia will end up losing something very good. If this school will happen to get more and better support abroad I wouldn't be surprised if ti would move away from Estonia and who will loose then? Estonia.

Sorry that I have written this post so sloppily but I'm just so angry on that situation.

On 15th April at 13:30 there will be a tour to this building what BFM would like to buy. There will be lots of students present there as well and we will keep fighting for our future and we want home no matter what.

This blog is probably most read by my fellow students so I call you all there and lets fight for our house.

Well, I went to the tour to the new building today. I was very impressed, it was one of the coolest buildings I've ever been to. I hope to see the picture of BaFiMe, our student council, and the representatives of the student union waving on the balcony. If BFM gets this house, then I shall apply to the MA program there, continue in the student council and occupy that marvellous room behind the balcony.

Other than that, I have no idea why the structural funds acted the way they did. They could have cut 100 Million from EKA's 700 for one year and give it to TLÜ. It's not likely EKA would waste all 700 in one day or even a year.

Estonian film as a whole would win a lot by getting this house, act up, please!
